GALLIEN / REMI: Potin-Münze; Männchen mit Zopf, Torques und Dolch n. rechts / Tier (Bär?) n. rechts; LT. 8124, 24-jun-04, EUR 49,00 geen biedingen
An amazing Celtic coin, in potin (a copper/tin alloy). The coin was not struck, but cast. The edges show where the coin was snapped out of the mould. This fantastic coin has a wonderful design over 2000 years old! It dates to about 60-40 BC and was made by Remes tribe of north-east central France. The Celtic warrior walking with his spear and neck-ring (torc) is wonderfully vivid, he almost seems to be moving! The reverse shows a bear trampling a snake, with a swirly design above. The coin weighs 3.5 grams and measures 22 mm, and is in very nice condition.
