zilveren sterling Gaucher de Chatillon (1312 - 1322)

This is a metal detecting find, found near Newark, Notts. It was identified for me by 'The Searcher' magazine in an article, copy of which will be sent to the successful bidder. The Searcher wrote; 'This is a sterling copying English Edwardian types; many varieties circulated in Britain during the 13th and 14th centuries. This one was struck by Gaucher de Chatillon (1312 - 1322), at the mint of Yves, near Florennes in the Low Countries. It appears to be Mayhew type 244.' 

Diameter of coin is about 17.1mms. It is 0.7 mms thick. Condition is fine.

A continental sterling of Florennes - in imitation of the English penny - issued by Gaucher of Châtillon between 1313 and 1322. It was minted at Yves, near Florennes, in what is now Belgium. 17 mm

The obverse legend reads GALCHS COMES PORC (Gaucher, Count of Porcien) and the reverse MON / ET N / OVA / YVE (New money of Yves).
