Roman Empire, 1st - 3rd c. AD. Bronze gambling knuckle bone. Used by Roman legionaries for gambling. Dark green patina. Measures 17x31mm. Found in the Balkans.

Gespielt wurde mit vier Astragalen. Diese wurden in die Luft geworfen und anschließend die Werte der Seiten gezählt. Zeigte ein Wurf alle vier Astragale mit unterschiedlichen Seiten (1, 3, 4, 6) so nannte man den Wurf Venus und der Werfer gewann das Spiel. Zeigten alle Astragale nur eine 1 so wurde dieser Wurf Canis (lateinisch Hund) genannt und der Spieler hatte automatisch verloren.wpe4.jpg (26665 bytes)
